Rainshadow Organics’ Sarahlee Lawrence was interviewed on Oregon Public Broadcasting’s program, Think Out Loud, about land use zoning and developmental pressure in Central Oregon. She applied for funding through a new NRCS program that preserves land for agriculture in Oregon, the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program. This program helps landowners protect the long-term viability of the nation’s food supply by preventing land use changes of productive working lands to non-agricultural uses. At Rainshadow, Sarahlee has a large focus on sustainability for their land, for environmental and social reasons. In this feature, she discusses different ways of valuing the land, her experience as a family farmer, and her perspectives on the food system.
This is a great feature of a local farm and definitely worth a listen. Follow this link to head to the OPB website and check it out!
